Weddings, the next few months.

I thought I’d give you a little update, after the government’s announcement yesterday, on how weddings will run for the near future.

Life is all about connections, romantic, platonic, family connections; that’s why Covid has been so hard, those connections have been disrupted. Covid 19 has affected the wedding industry (just like others) in a huge way. Weddings are synonymous with the togetherness of friends and family from all over the country and quite often the world. There is lots of hugging and kissing, (god I miss hugging!) It is no great surprise that weddings are going to be continually affected by the pandemic, that being said, of course it is great news that weddings are able to go ahead with up to 30 people in attendance afterwards at a reception. What do you think about this?

For couples that have postponed and cannot wait any longer to get married this is all great news. But for most who want all their loved ones there or have family who are still shielding and therefore not able to attend, it is far from ideal. It is an impossible situation. Of course the priority is to try to eliminate this virus, and so mass gatherings will be one of the last events to restart. Since lockdown I have seen so many postponements. It has been so difficult to hear how my couples feel moving their big day.

These last few months have been so unpredictable and the next few months look set to be the same. I have couples who have moved their dates from the lockdown months, to September, October and later in the year; the uncertainty is still there. None of my couples have decided to go ahead with the smaller numbers, as tough a decision as it is to make. Others are deciding to move dates again to next year and later, in the hope that they can have the original celebration that they have been dreaming of.

So, what does smaller weddings mean for flowers?! Just because you are having a smaller wedding this does not mean that you need to go small on flowers. Despite lower numbers being allowed at weddings, you will still want to dress the original space; you will be wanting to create a more intimate setting and flowers are a great way to do this. Also, why not have that big floral arch you have been dreaming of, just look at Princess Beatrice’s wedding showstopper from last weekend.

Take a look (above) at the images for flowers I created for this intimate wedding at the stunning Canada Lodge at the beginning of lockdown. Although the guest numbers were really small the ceremony was so beautiful, this floral back drop was the perfect setting to say their vows.

If you are a couple who are just thinking ‘let’s do it!’ feel free to get in touch. I am able to create beautiful flowers for these smaller occasions. We can chat over the phone and by email to get a clear look for your day. You may just want bouquets for brides, bridesmaids and buttonholes, this is something I would happily create with as much care and love I put into my bigger events. I will be so grateful to be back working on wedding flowers again.

So weddings over the next few months will have to change. Despite all the uncertainty, one thing I am certain of is that couples will always celebrate their love. Weddings are a huge tradition, we all love a good wedding and party and that will not disappear. In the meantime, I am still here; if you have any concerns feel free to contact me. Follow the advice; stay 2 metres apart, wash your filthy hands, stop touching your beautiful faces, wait a while longer for those hugs.

Stay safe everyone.
