When Ariana and Adam first described their vision to me — rich, jewel-toned florals inside a real Welsh castle in late autumn — I knew immediately that we were going to create something extraordinary together. And Hensol Castle made the perfect canvas.

Nestled in 650 acres of rolling Vale of Glamorgan countryside just outside Cardiff, Hensol Castle is one of South Wales's finest wedding venues — and in the winter months it comes into its own. All that was needed to complete the picture was flowers that matched the drama.

Rich Reds, Dusty Pinks & Foliage

Ariana’s brief was clear. She wanted tonal reds and pinks with beautiful seasonal blooms full of texture. Doesn’t it sound romantic? Basically my dream job. We built the entire palette around the natural abundance of late autumn — moving from deep burgundy and crimson through to warm rose, dusky pink, and soft blush, all grounded by an abundance of rich, dark foliage.

The Colours at a Glance

Deep burgundy, crimson, warm rose, dusty pink, dark foliage, sage green and gold details.

Moving from the bold tones of the burgundy through to the soft pinks ensured the arrangements had real depth — colours that shift throughout the day and which photograph beautifully in both the bright light of a November afternoon and the warm glow of candlelight in the evening.

November is one of my favourite months to work with as a florist, precisely because it forces you to embrace what the season truly offers. Ariana held a bouquet full of texture; lush, romantic, and perfectly suited to a castle setting. The bouquets were made up of, (you can easily screenshot this list for inspiration)

Ranunculus

Crimson pom pom chrysanthemums

Red spray roses

Dusky pink lisianthus

Pink astrantia

Blush Quicksand roses

Ceremony Room & Aisle

Floral bouquets of burgundy, crimson and rose coloured blooms sat along the aisle ends. A stunning low arrangement of seasonal flowers decorated the registry table.

The tall domes full of foliage created a dramatic effect. They were full of dark pistache foliage, italian ruscus with clusters of red rosee hips dotted around the display. The gold stands finished the look perfectly and the final result was exactly the look Ariana and Adam wanted.

All of the floral displays from the ceremony room were repurposed for the wedding breakfast. This is something I always recommend my couples consider. It is a great ways to make the very most of your beautiful flowers.

This is what Ariana had to say about her wedding day:

The experience I had with Anne-Marie was unmatched. The first time we met she listened to me ramble on about what I thought I wanted..
Her knowledge and experience shows as the flowers were beyond what we imagined them to look like and they tied the whole theme and colour scheme together just perfectly. I couldn’t believe how she just knew exactly what I wanted and could transpire that into some of the most beautiful flowers.
Cant recommend Anne-Marie enough!
